CORROPRO CORROSION PROTECTION Tel: 01925 825 555
Description
Pewag CORROPRO is a combination of two coating techniques: zinc-phosphating and electrocoating. In the electrochemical process the component is immersed in a bath. The procedure is ideally for laminating complex structures and larger quantities. The paint particles are drawn to the metal part and the paint is deposited on the part forming an even continuous film over the entire surface until the coating reaches the desired thickness. The film insulates the part, when attraction stops, then the process is complete. Depending on the polarity of the charge, electrocoating is classified as either anodic or cathodic.
This even continuous film produced in the bath is then hardenend in a special furnace at a temperature between 150°C – 160°C.
pewag CORROPRO does not contain any heavy metals e.g. lead and is free of CR-VI.
The mechanical properties of the coated parts are not effected e.g. hydrogen embrittlement. Possible outlet for stress corrosion cracks or heat effects.
Pretreatment: zinc-phosphating
Colouring: black similar RAL 9005 Thickness: 20m +/-5m
]heading]Summary of the results (especially pewag products)[/heading]
Pewag CORROPRO will substitute the former (PEWACOAT) PWT coating and has been tested in depth. The results of these tests were more than satisfactory.
Visual Assessment
The surface coating looks really good and is smooth. (See photos from salt spray test). Compared to the grey PWT coating, the black colour of the CORROPRO coating is visually evener. The surface shows partially coated, hardly noticeable spots. This can hardly be avoided with the chains, as these are bundled and have to be hung on racks for the KTL electrocoating process. The components are completely coated.
Cross-section Adhesion Test Acc. to ISO 2409, DIN 53151, ASTM 3002, ASTM D3359
This test provides information regarding the bond strength (adhesiveness) of the electrocoating. With the crosscut specific value of 0 (zero) KTL (electrocoating) shows optimal adhesion.
Saltspray Test acc. to DIN 50 021
The salt spray test was made comparing KTL with PWT coating. (See enclosed pictures). After 144 hours the CORROPRO coating showed no noticeable signs of corrosion whereas the PWT coated chain showed 20% red rust. On the KTL chain corrosion is only visible at points of contact, these points as already mentioned cannot be avoided on the chain. After 408 hours the PWT coated chain showed 100 % red rust whereas the CORROPRO chain showed only 20% red rust.
Durability/Outdoor Weathering Test
For several months the chain was exposed to weather extremes (rain, sun and snow). Other than a matt finish on the surface of the CORROPRO chain, no adverse effect could be noticed. (See enclosed photographs).
Function Control (Schackle & Screw Thread Connecting link)
KTL coating has a layer thickness of approx. 20 microns. This is a very thin layer which does not interfere with the functioning of the screwthread and the moveable elements of the component.
Electro-Magnetic Crack Detection (Fluxen)
CORROPRO coated chains and components can be tested efficiently with an electro-magnetic crack detector.
Abbreviated designation
CORROPRO coated chains and components are recognisable in the article text with the short term PCP ( PWT for PEWACOAT covering).
